Ted Uzelac is a combat veteran, police officer, and lifelong public servant running for Indiana State Representative in District 10. Born and raised in Northwest Indiana, Ted comes from a proud lineage of veterans and union workers. His father is a Vietnam veteran and steelworker, his mother a nurse, and his grandparents settled in Porter County with a belief in hard work and opportunity. That legacy shaped Ted’s commitment to service from an early age.
After graduating high school, Ted joined the military and later became a police officer in Portage. Following the September 11 attacks, he re-enlisted and was deployed to Mosul, Iraq, where he served with distinction during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Ted, as well as his father and grandfather, is a Purple Heart recipient.
Back home, Ted continued his service as a law enforcement officer, rising through the ranks to become Assistant Police Chief for the City of Portage. With over two decades of experience protecting and serving his community, Ted has earned the trust of residents and colleagues alike. As a father and husband, Ted is running to ensure that his children and grandchildren have the same opportunities he had growing up. He understands the challenges facing Northwest Indiana and he’s committed to delivering real solutions.

Ted Uzelac has spent his career on the front lines of public safety, and he knows what it takes to keep our neighborhoods secure. As crime from Chicago increasingly spills into Northwest Indiana, Ted is committed to giving law enforcement the tools, training, and support they need to push back and defend Hoosier families. He will fight for stronger penalties for violent offenders, crack down on drug and human trafficking corridors, and ensure our police departments are fully funded and empowered to protect our families.

As State Representative, he will champion legislation that prioritizes local hiring for public projects and invests in vocational training and apprenticeships that prepare Hoosiers for high-demand careers. He’ll fight to keep jobs in Indiana and ensure that economic development benefits the families who’ve called this region home for generations.
Affordability for Hoosier Families
Ted Uzelac understands that rising housing and utility costs are squeezing Northwest Indiana families. As State Representative, he will fight to expand access to affordable housing, support responsible development that keeps property taxes in check, and push for utility rate transparency and reform. Ted wants to ensure home ownership is an attainable dream for the next generation to keep our kids and grandkids in Indiana.
